Enniscrone Golf Club
Enniscrone Golf Club in County Mayo, Ireland, has a long history going back to 1918. However the current exceptional 18 hole links course was only completed in 2001 after a redesign by Donald Steel incorporating some new holes into the dunes and some holes from the Eddie Hackett layout from 1974. With 6 holes from the Hackett course and 3 new ones, a new 9 hole course was also created.
The current layout offers some pretty testing golf - particularly through the large dunes but with contrasting flattish holes by the sea - not as easy as they may look with the wind blowing! However, these two contrasting terrains make for a very interesting course and don't expect to score very highly, especially in the wind.
Situated beside the picturesque seaside town of Enniscrone (also spelt as Inniscrone), the golf course affords panoramic views of Killala Bay, Bartra Island and sandy beaches with Nephin and the Ox Mountains forming the backdrop.
